Now Panick and Freak Out (A Rant)

For the love of god, what have we done? We are not off to a good start here, people. Strike one: The name ENGRAVED (not printed, but engraved) into metal on our new mailbox? DUMBar.  Then, we thought, let’s go for a glass of wine and take the edge off.  Strike two: The first two restaurants we went to were full and the third was closed, so we gave up. Strike three: To make matters worse, we had to go to Ikea, which is really just a free weekend daycare centre for low-income earners. We had to show two pieces of ID and sign 8 pieces of paper to have a 199 euro table delivered – and certainly it could be not be delivered same day because THIS IS FRANCE! and we don’t like to encourage that kind of excessive productivity because it sets the bar too high. The table should be here in the next one to two years, depending on their strike schedules.

As you can see, I am in moving meltdown mode, realizing that actually France is the same massive mess the whole country over only now I have left behind my friends and two dozen well-paid job opportunities in Paris to start over in yet another equally dysfunctional city with very few job opportunities. Well done me.

I perked up a bit when Al pointed out that on the upside Lyon is a pharmaceutical hub. Show me the Xanax! Tomorrow morning our furniture will arrive and things had better start looking up.
